Local libraries are offering events and programs for all ages. Here’s a look at what’s planned.
• Movie Effects runs from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. March 2. Mad Science will share the science behind movie effects.
• Gaming Club meets from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. March 1, 8, 15, 22 and 29. Teens and tweens grades six to 12 are welcome to join. Have fun playing video games on the library’s Xbox, Nintendo Switch and Wii.
• Story Time, designed for the youngest pre-K readers, runs from 10:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. March 2, 9, 16, 23 and 30.
• The Armada Genealogy Society will meet at 10 a.m. March 15. The meetings are open to anyone interested in researching their family genealogy and/or helping to collect/preserve genealogical and historical data for the Armada area.
• The library board meets at 4 p.m. March 16.

• Books and Babies, for children 6 months to 24 months old with caregiver, will take place on March 1, 8, 15, 22 and 29 from 10 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Enjoy lapsit songs, interactive baby rhymes and simple storybooks, followed by playtime with toys.
• Play Group will be offered on March 1, 8, 15, 22 and 29 at 10:30 a.m. Books and Babies attendees are invited to play together after story time.
• Movie Tuesday is set for March 7 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. The movie presentation for March is “Tar.”
• The Fiction Book Discussion Group will meet March 7 from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. The book selection is “The School for Good Mothers,” by Jessamine Chan. Participating in the group provides an opportunity to meet new people and read a book you might not otherwise have selected. The group always welcomes new members.
• HatchXR Grades 6-8 Coding Class will be offered March 8 from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Teens and tweens in grades six to eight can learn the basics of the Hatch Kids workspace and how it can be used to design and code 3D/AR/VR games, all while building a 3D story. Learn how to move objects in a 3D space using block coding and how to make objects interact with each other. The beginner coding class is suitable for those who have never coded before.
• Creative Writing Group will meet on March 9 from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
• Game Day for Adults will be offered March 11 from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. The library will provide board games, but participants are welcome to bring their own.
• Read to Echo or Olive on Wednesdays through May 31 from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. Children who have a hard time reading can gain confidence in their skills by reading to a trained therapy dog.
• Toddler Time will take place on Mondays through Feb. 27 and Thursdays through March 2 from 10 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Toddlers with a favorite adult can enjoy interactive stories, songs and games that encourage their emerging language skills.
• On Tuesdays through April 18 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., the IRS Volunteer Income Tax Assistance, or VITA, program: Tax Preparation and Filing Services, will be available at the library. Macomb County Veterans Services has partnered with Macomb Community Action and the Accounting Aid Society to offer free tax help for local veterans and low-income individuals and families. • Movie Night runs from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. March 20. The program is geared toward children up to age 10, but all children and families are welcome.

• Hooks & Needles, a knitting and crochet group, meets at 6 p.m. March 14 and 28. All levels are welcome. Bring a project to work on.
• The library board meets at 5:30 p.m. March 13.
• Richmond Readers meets from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. March 16.
• The Walk & Talk Book Club meets at 6:30 p.m. March 22.
• The Friends of the Library will host a spring puzzle sale from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. March 25. Costs will range between $1 and $5 per puzzle. Donations of puzzles in good condition are accepted during the library’s open hours.
• Lapsit Plus for ages 16 months to 36 months takes place at 10 a.m. March 28.
• Preschool Storytime for ages 3 to 5 takes place at 10 a.m. March 30.

• Free Tax Preparation with Macomb County will be offered from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. March 1. Macomb County is providing free tax preparation for all tax filers with annual family income of less than $57,000 and no corporate returns or foreign income. Tax prep is done by appointment.
• Kid’s Parachute Play is set for 5 p.m. March 1. School-age kids can play games with the library’s large parachute.
• The Cozy Mystery Book Club meets from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. March 2.
• The Friends of the MacDonald Public Library will host a book sale from 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. March 3 and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. March 4.
• Make-It Mondays runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. March 6, 13 and 20. Join local crafters in the community room to work on projects and share expertise.
• Teen Leprechaun Trap Competition is set for 4:30 p.m. March 7. Teens will have one hour to build a trap they think would be capable of catching a leprechaun out of craft materials. The most ingenious leprechaun trap (as voted on by library staff members) will win.
• Writers’ Wednesday runs from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. March 8.
• Crafts for Adults is set for 6 p.m. March 9. Registration is required to ensure enough supplies.
• Puzzle Day runs from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. March 11. Puzzles will be set up in the community room for patrons to work on.
• Adult Art Space runs from noon to 2 p.m. March 11. The event allows adults to be creative and make art in a relaxed space.
• Teen Take-and-Make: Microwave Mug Cakes will be offered March 14. Teens can pick up a take-and-make kit from the library at any time that day. The kits will include dry ingredients and instructions to make microwave mug cakes at home.
• Toddler and Preschool Storytime is set for 10 a.m. March 14 and 16. Join Ms. Kelly at the library for stories, songs and fun. Registration is requested. Walk-ins will be accommodated as space allows.
• American Girl Club meets at 5 p.m. March 15. Kids can enjoy snacks, crafts and learning about this month’s American Girl character, Josefina.
• Lego Club meets at 5 p.m. March 16. Come build with the library’s collection of Lego bricks.
• Color Me Fun for Adults is set for 5 p.m. March 16. Registration is required.
• Books on Tap meets at 8 p.m. March 16 at Knapp’s City Garage, located at 36370 Main St. in New Baltimore.
• Baby and Me Storytime, featuring a book, songs and fun, takes place at 10 a.m. March 17. Registration is required, but walk-ins will be accommodated where space allows.
• The Friends of MacDonald Public Library will meet at 10:30 a.m. March 20.
• Writer’s Club meets from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. March 20. Get together with other writers for support, discussion and time to write without the distractions of home.

• Toddler Time – “Stack the Cats” is set for 11:30 a.m. March 6 and 7. Cats of all shapes and sizes scamper, yawn and stretch across the pages of this playful counting book. Ages 12 months to 4 years are invited to the story time, which also features block stacking and shaker fun.
• Intro to Chicken Keeping is set for 6 p.m. March 6.
• March Kids Craft runs from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. March 9. Kids can make St. Patrick’s Day crafts. Register in advance, as space is limited.
• Adult Craft runs from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. March 13. Join for a spring display tray, etched glass vase and spring flowers. Register in advance, as space is limited.
• Music & a Story runs from 6 p.m. to 6:45 p.m. March 14. Join former Library Clerk Alyssa for a reading of a new children’s book, “Something Wild,” and a mini cozy violin concert. All ages are welcome.
• Book Club – “The Bookish Life of Nina Hill” is set for 6 p.m. March 16. Join for a discussion of the book by Abbi Waxman.
• Cold Case Files Teen Night for ages 12 and older runs from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. March 23. Unsolved Case Files puts participants in the shoes of a cold case detective tasked with solving a murder that happened decades ago with only the original investigator’s case file. Register in advance, as space is limited.

• Conversation and Crafts, open to teens and adults, runs from noon to 1:30 p.m. March 4, 11, 18 and 25. Participants can pursue their own projects while learning from others who share their passions.
• Cookbook Club meets at 6 p.m. March 8. Bring a favorite recipe and a sample to share. This month, use a “green” ingredient for St. Patrick’s Day. Next month’s theme is cook’s choice.
• Monday Night Book Club meets at 6 p.m. March 13.
• Family Fort Night runs from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. March 14. Participants will enjoy a fun reading experience in a fort.
• Grown-up Coloring Club meets at 6 p.m. March 21. Supplies will be provided, but participants are welcome to bring their own coloring books.
• Get to know famous historical figures better by creating a one of a kind piece of art work using a technique that will transfer an image onto a painted background at 6:30 p.m. March 29.

• Make a sunny rainbow craft from 11 a.m. to noon March 25. Registration is required.

• Boho Chic Pendant runs from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. March 15. Design a casual pendant with seed beads while enjoying a fun evening with others.
• STEM Saturday: Make Your Own Lava Lamp runs from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. March 18. Kids will use basic household ingredients to make their mini lava lamp while also learning about chemical reactions, density and buoyancy.
• Last Saturday at the Movies is set for 11 a.m. March 25. Call the branch for the current month’s feature.

• A two-part embroidered tea towel class is set to run from 6 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. March 2 and 9. The class uses basic sewing and embroidery skills. Participants must take both classes. Bring a sewing kit; all other materials are provided.
• Family Storytime for preschoolers and their caregivers features songs, stories, activities and a small craft from 10 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. March 3 and 10.
• Teen Trivia Night runs from 6 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. March 7. Teens are invited to celebrate National Reading Month with a trivia night to test their book-related knowledge.
• A senior lunch is set to run from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. March 14. Join for a presentation by Becky Pare’ on her recent trip to Ireland. Irish Stew and refreshments are provided by the Friends of the Memphis Library. Registration is required.
• The Third Thursday Book Club meets at 6:30 p.m. March 16. Contact the library for the current book.
• Kids can create a no-sew sock bunny to decorate for spring or Easter at 6 p.m. March 21. Registration is requested. Adult supervision is required.

• A presentation by Patti Samar is set for 6 p.m. March 1. Celebrate Women’s History Month with local women’s history makers. Patti Samar from Blue Water Woman magazine will be on hand to talk about her publication and the importance of sharing women’s history and stories.
• Mario Day Felt Plushies Crafting is set for 6 p.m. March 8. Celebrate Mario Day in March by creating a small felt plushie of the video game plumber or one of his friends. A Mario Day Party will run from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. March 11. There will be games, crafts, a photo booth and a live-action Mario Kart track. Games will include a floor lava area, Goomba stomp and Bowser shell ring toss. Crafts will consist of creating a Yoshi egg and piranha plant. The video game Mario Kart 8 for the Switch will also be available to play.
• A book presentation by author Carol Trembath is set for 3:30 p.m. March 10. Hear about the first Memorial Day of the nation, plus excerpts from “Out of Slavery: A Novel of Harriet Tubman.”
• Bad Movie Night, featuring “Battleship,” is set for 5:30 p.m. March 14. Popcorn will be provided.
• Michigan’s Most Dangerous Women, a presentation by true crime author Tobin T. Buhk, is set for 6:30 p.m. March 15. The Detroit House of Correction was the only Michigan prison to house female inmates serving long-term sentences. Within its walls were some of the most terrifying female prisoners in history.
• The Friends of the St. Clair County Library – Port Huron/Main meets at 1 p.m. March 17.
• Ladies of the Lights – Michigan is set for 6 p.m. March 22. Nearly 70 images of light keepers, their families and their lights make up this presentation. The program includes readings from newspapers and autobiographies, as well as handouts including the list of featured ladies and additional reading references for attendees.
• Teen Yoga is set for 3:30 p.m. March 23. Registration is requested, as space is limited.
• Birdwching vs. Birding with Greg Bodker is set for 12:30 p.m. March 25 at the Don Dodge Auditorium behind the library. Bodker’s photography will help attendees learn more about birds.
• Kids Yoga is set for 1 p.m. March 27. Ms. Anne guides kids as they learn yoga poses to become a part of the story adventure.
• Storytime, featuring a blend of stories, rhymes and songs for preschool children, followed by activity time with structured play to hone fine and gross motor skills, runs from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. March 1, 3, 8, 10, 15, 17, 22 and 24.
• Rhythm & Rhyme, which introduces little ones to the sounds and rhythms of language through short poems, stories and music, followed by play, runs from 10 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. March 7, 14, 21 and 28.

• Cribbage will be played from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. March 6, 13, 20 and 27. Beginners are welcome.
• Take a closer look at the art of collage and book artist Patrica Bober at 4 p.m. March 2. Hand-bound journals, books and art pieces using ephemera collage, stamps, paint, made and collected, plus selected bits to create a joyous riot and visual feast.

• The Marilyn Zweng Book Club meets at noon March 21 at the Voyager Restaurant, located at 525 S. Riverside Ave. in St. Clair, to discuss “The Kindness of Strangers” by Katrina Kittle,.
• Cookbook Club meets at 6 p.m. March 21. Bring a favorite recipe and a sample to share. Call the branch for the theme of the month.
• Dinner and a Movie is set for 5:30 p.m. March 22. Call the branch for the film title.
